Many early Suburb houses have flat, lead-covered canopies over doors. In the case of properties designed as a group, consistency of design is essential. Fitted benches or settles would sometimes be included to create a small outdoor room for informal summer gatherings. These porches are often the dominant feature of an elevation and their detailing should always be respected. Glazing-in of such porches or verandas is unlikely to be acceptable. The effect of an alteration on a group of buildings will always be carefully considered. |
