Garden buildings

Trust Consent and planning control also cover garden sheds, greenhouses, outbuildings, open and covered swimming pools, ponds and pergolas.

Many original houses were designed with garden storage under the main roof. Over the years, internal alterations and storage needs have led to a number of applications for garden buildings. These are sometimes poorly sited and spoil outward views, particularly from grouped houses. We will bear this in mind before granting further consents. Generally only one shed per dwelling 1.5m x 2m on plan (5ft x 7ft) will be allowed. This may be increased to 1.8m x 2.4m (6ft x 8ft) for a large garden.

Proposals for alterations to the existing houses involving the removal of garden storage or garden space will be scrutinised to ensure that their loss does not adversely affect the character of the property.

We will not normally permit the construction of open air or covered swimming pools in Suburb Garden. With few exceptions, the gardens of Suburb houses are too small to permit the erection of either open air or covered pools without serious detriment to the green character of the area.
